Kojima Experimented with New Controller for MGS4

September 26th, 2009

If games like Guitar Hero and Wii Fit can be released with their own proprietary controllers, why not something like Metal Gear Solid 4 ? Evidently that’s exactly what Hideo Kojima was thinking at one point during its development, as MGS series producer Kenichiro Imaizumi revealed Kojima was experimenting with a custom controller for the game. Speaking in a video clip that, in fact, was made to hype Microsoft’s Project Natal controller ( via Joystiq), Imaizumi explained what this scrapped

Nagoshi is impressed with Project Natal

September 24th, 2009

Microsoft held a conference with a ton of Japanese developers, letting them demo Project Natal and give their opinions. I’m surprised at how positive the feedback was, even from “Mr. Sony fanboy” Nagoshi himself. Nagoshi said the first time he saw Natal, he wanted to try it because he didn’t believe it was real. Now he wants to buy one as soon as possible. He mentions that the voice feature will be great for online games, but he is more excited about how people will use it for single player ga

Chart Track UK Software Sales for week ending 25/07: Wii Sports Resort tops the chart

July 27th, 2009

In its first two days on sale, Wii Sports Resort has managed to place itself at No. 1 on the UK Software Sales Chart. This sales performance by Wii Sports Resort has resulted in the fourth best week one sales of a Wii title, after Wii Fit, Mario Kart Wii and Mario & Sonic at the Olympics. While the original Wii Sports was never sold separately, and thus never had its sales tracked as an individual game, Chart Track notes that week one sales of the Wii console (which came bundled with Wi

E3 wrapped-up: The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

June 5th, 2009

E3, the world’s largest videogame trade show has been running in Los Angeles this week. And from a damp squib that was described as being like a “hospital corridor” (by Sega’s US boss) last year, E3 2009 has cooked up a storm. Here’s a personal and probably controversial view of the highs and lows of the show that brought videogames into the mainstream spotlight: The Good Project Natal Microsoft’s motion-and-speech-sensing peripheral was clearly the “winner” of E3 in terms of wow-factor.

Satoru Iwata Interview - Concerns WiiHD

June 5th, 2009

If you have the time, I highly recommend reading this interview conducted by VentureBeat . Satoru Iwata provides wonderful insights into Nintendo, the video game world, and his views towards Nintendo’s competition. At this point of the current gen cycle, it’s safe to say that Nintendo’s hardware is a step, or maybe even two behind the competition in terms of graphical prowess. There’s nothing inherently right or wrong about this. After all, Nintendo’s base system is the cheapest of the three

June 4th, 2009

Who needs some silly remote controls you wave around to control a game when you can turn your entire body into that silly remote? Microsoft has announced at the annual E3 gaming conference that they are working on a new addition to the Xbox 360 gaming system called “Project Natal”.  While small details like pricing or a arelease date are missing at this time, what is known is that this could completely change how we play video games and interact with technology. Imagine a camera system bar u
